Hello everyone, welcome to my latest recipe for Gluten and Dairy Free Spanish Hot Chocolate.

If you have ever been to Spain before you will no that they are famous for their amazing hot chocolate.  It is world’s apart from the drink we are used to here.

The chocolate drink is much richer and thicker than what we are used to and you only need a small cup.  It is also perfect for dipping delicious things like churros into (I have a recipe for gluten free churros on my site if you want to make them).

I’ve been wanting to make a dairy free version of this a while now so I can enjoy it when I’m here in Scotland.  Luckily Spain is great for eating out with food allergies and the last time I visited I was able to enjoy a dairy free version of their famous hot chocolate.

If you don’t use all this chocolate at once it can be stored in the fridge and reheated the next day.

  1. Place the milk and cornstarch into a saucepan
  2. Whisk until the cornstarch has dissolved
  3. Heat the milk until just before boiling
  4. Turn down the heat to low and stir in the chocolate and sugar
  5. Stir continuously until the chocolate thickens
  6. Pour into four little espresso cups and enjoy
