Hello everyone, welcome to my latest recipe for Gluten and Dairy Free Chocolate Banana Cream Pie.

I’m used to baking cakes, cookies and desserts for other people.  I usually make them for big family dinners, taking to friends or into work.  Unfortunately none of these things are happening right now so I’m trying to bake in much smaller batches.

I scaled this recipe down and just made a couple of individual tarts which is all that was needed.  The recipe will make one large pie or 4-6 individual pies depending on the size of your flan tins.

Chocolate Banana Cream Pie (Gluten & Dairy Free)

Servings: 6


For the base:

For the filling:

For the chocolate ganache:


  1. Grease a 6” flan tin or 6 individual flan cases

  2. Preheat the oven to 180 oC
  3. Place the caster sugar and flour in a bowl

  4. Rub the dairy free into the flour mix and stir in the water

  5. Press into the bottom of the tin and up around the edges
  6. Bake in the oven for 15 minutes or 10 minutes if making individual pies

  7. Set aside to cool
  8. Make the banana cream by placing the milk in a small saucepan and bring to the boil
  9. Beat together the egg yolks, caster sugar and cornflour in a jug
  10. Pour the boiled milk into the jug whisking continuously
  11. Return to the saucepan and bring to the boil whisking continuously until thickened
  12. Set aside to cool before using
  13. Make the chocolate ganache by placing the dairy free cream and caster sugar into a small pan
  14. Bring to the boil and then remove from the heat
  15. Stir in the chocolate and dairy free spread
  16. Set aside to cool
  17. Assemble the pie by placing the sliced banana in the base of the biscuit case, top with the cream and then the ganache
  18. Chill in the fridge for a couple of hours before serving
