Preheat the oven to 180 oC

Make up the plain and chocolate sponges in two separates bowl, as follows

Cream the butter and sugar together for a couple of minutes until light and fluffy

Add the eggs one at a time, beating well after each addition

Add the flour, cocoa powder (for the chocolate sponge) and the food dye (into the plain sponge), xanthan gum, baking powder and almonds and beat well to combine

Line two 8 inch round baking pans

Place alternate spoonfuls of plain and chocolate mixture into the baking pans

Swirl the mixture with a knife to create the marble effect

Smooth out the top of the cakes with a spatula

Place in the oven and bake for 20 minutes

Remove the cakes from the oven and cake pans and allow to cool on a wire rack

To make the buttercream beat the butter, cocoa powder and icing sugar together until light and fluffy

Use the butter cream to sandwich the two cakes together
-
Top with halloween decorations of your choice
