As autumn approaches it is time to start thinking about hearty soup recipes! This recipe combines lentils with lightly spiced tomatoes.

  1. Place the olive oil in a large saucepan over a medium heat

  2. Add the onion, carrot, garlic, chilli, paprika and cumin

  3. Cook for 5 minutes

  4. Stir in the tomatoes and passatta

  5. Cook for 2 minutes then stir in the lentils

  6. Season with salt and pepper

  7. Pour in the stock and bring to the boil

  8. Cover and simmer for 25 minutes

  9. Blend until smooth
