Hello everyone, welcome to my latest recipe for Gluten Free and Dairy Free German Pancakes.
As you all know from the number of pancake recipes I have on my website they are a breakfast favourite for me. A couple of months ago I had a German pancake, or a Dutch baby as they are often called, when I was out for brunch with friends in London.
This inspired me to have a go at making them at home and also googling why they were called Dutch babies! Not sure if there is any truth in this at all but seemingly a famous cafe in Seattle used to serve pancake Deutsch pancakes. The cafe owner’s daughter used to call them Dutch as she couldn’t say Deutsch and the name just caught on.
Whether a lot of nonsense or not, they are definitely worth having a go at serving them for breakfast. My favourite topping is lovely cinnamon caramelised apples with a light dusting of icing sugar.
