Ingredients
    For the plain sponge:
  • 125 grams dairy free spread
  • 125 grams caster sugar
  • 2 eggs
  • 110 grams gluten free self raising flour
  • 1/2 baking powder
  • 15 grams ground almonds
  • 1 dairy free milk
  • For the chocolate sponge:
  • 125 grams dairy free spread
  • 125 grams caster sugar
  • 2 eggs
  • 80 grams gluten free self raising flour
  • 30 grams gluten and dairy free cocoa powder
  • 1/2 baking powder
  • 15 grams ground almonds
  • 1 dairy free milk
  • For the chocolate buttercream:
  • 125 grams dairy free butter
  • 50 grams gluten and dairy free cocoa powder
  • 200 grams icing sugar
Instructions
  1. Preheat the oven to 180 oC
  2. Make up the plain and chocolate sponges in two separates bowl, as follows
  3. Cream the butter and sugar together for a couple of minutes until light and fluffy
  4. Add the eggs one at a time, beating well after each addition
  5. Add the flour, cocoa powder (for the chocolate sponge), baking powder and almonds and beat well to combine
  6. Add the milk and mix in
  7. Line a 9 inch round baking tin
  8. Place alternate spoonfuls of plain and chocolate mixture into the baking tin
  9. Swirl the mixture with a knife to create the marble effect
  10. Smooth out the top of the cakes with a spatula
  11. Place in the oven and bake for 40 minutes
  12. Remove the cake from the oven and cake tin and allow to cool completely
  13. To make the buttercream beat the butter, cocoa powder and icing sugar together until light and fluffy
  14. Spread the chocolate buttercream on top of the cake
