- The world's largest whoopie pie was created in South Portland Maine on March 26, 2011, weighing in at 1,062 pounds
- The town of Dover Foxcroft, has hosted the Maine Whoopie Pie Festival since 2009, it has around 7,500 visitors per year

Ingredients
- 250 g gluten free plain flour
- 1 tsp baking powder
- 5 tsp cocoa powder
- 200 g caster sugar
- 1 egg
- 125 ml vegetable oil
- 180 ml dairy free milk
- 250 g icing sugar
- 125 g dairy free spread
- 2 tsp cocoa powder
For the sponge:

- 1 Preheat the oven to 180ºC

Whisk together the caster sugar, egg, vegetable oil and milk- 3
Stir in the flour, baking powder and cocoa- 4
Line a couple of baking sheets with parchment paper- 5
Drop 24 individual tablespoons onto the baking sheets- 6
Bake in the oven for 12 minutes- 7
Remove from the oven and allow to cool completely- 8
Make the buttercream by beating together the icing sugar, cocoa powder and dairy free spread- 9
Use the frosting to sandwich together the whoopie pieschocolate - 2
