Gluten and Dairy Free Italian Apple Tart (Torte Di Mele)

Torta Di Mele is a traditional Italian apple tart/cake. It is made by mixing apples though a thick cake batter and baking in the oven. It is delicious served hot or cold.




  • 2 eggs
  • 200g caster sugar
  • 100g dairy free spread, melted
  • 200ml dairy free milk
  • 200g gluten free self raising flour
  • 1 teaspoon xanthan gum
  • zest of 1 lemon
  • 3 medium sized apples

  1. Preheat the oven to 18o oC
  2. Grease and line a 9″ springform tin
  3. Core all three apples, slice one into wedges and cube the other two
  4. Place the apple wedges in the base of the tin
  5. In a large bowl beat together the eggs, sugar, spread, milk, flour, xanthan gum and zest until it forms a thick batter
  6. Stir in the other two diced apples
  7. Pour this mixture over the apples in the cake tin
  8. Bake in the centre of the oven for 55 minutes
  9. Remove from the oven and invert onto a plate
  10. Serve either hot or cold
