Gluten and Dairy Free Hot Dog Buns

Hands up if you miss a cheeky little hot dog as a treat now and again! I’ve put together a simple recipe for creating these buns. They are great as an alternative to your normal sandwich bread or roll at lunchtime.




  • 85g dairy free spread
  • 2 teaspoons honey
  • 230ml dairy free milk
  • 7g yeast
  • 1 egg, beaten
  • 380g gluten free bread flour
  • 1 tablespoon sugar
  • 2 teaspoons salt


  1. Melt the dairy free spread in the microwave then stir in the honey and milk
  2. Add the yeast into a large mixing bowl and pour in the milk mixture
  3. Leave to a activate for 5 minutes or until foamy
  4. Add in the egg, flour, sugar and salt
  5. Beat with an electric mixer for 5 minutes
  6. Cover with cling film and leave to rise for an hour
  7. Divide into 8 and then shape into rolls about 6″ long
  8. Brush with a little oil and leave to rise for an hour
  9. Heat the oven to 180 oC
  10. Bake the buns for 20 minutes
