Gluten and Dairy Free Chocolate Whoopie Pies

Serves 12


For the sponge:

  • 250g gluten free plain flour
  • 1 teaspoon baking powder
  • 5 tablespoons cocoa powder
  • 200g caster sugar
  • 1 egg
  • 125ml vegetable oil
  • 180ml dairy free milk

For the buttercream:

  • 250g icing sugar
  • 125g dairy free spread
  • 2 teaspoons cocoa powder


  1. Preheat the oven to 180ºC
  2. Whisk together the caster sugar, egg, vegetable oil and milk
  3. Stir in the flour, baking powder and cocoa
  4. Line a couple of baking sheets with parchment paper
  5. Drop 24 individual tablespoons onto the baking sheets
  6. Bake in the oven for 12 minutes
  7. Remove from the oven and allow to cool completely
  8. Make the buttercream by beating together the icing sugar, cocoa powder and dairy free spread
  9. Use the frosting to sandwich together the whoopie pies
