A FreeFromFavourites Review of 2016

Hello

As its the last day of 2016 I thought I would post a little review of the year.  I’ve had a dig through the recipes I’ve posted throughout 2016 and picked my favourite four from each month.

Have a great new year everyone and all the best for 2017.

Enjoy!

Afternoon everyone

As promised last week I’m going to share more savoury recipes after the abundance of sweets treats I posted in December.  Don’t worry though I’ll still be posting sweet recipes just mixed in with a few more savoury ones.

You can simplify this recipe by buying dairy free pesto which is readily available from your supermarket.

Enjoy!

Gluten, Dairy & Egg Free Bacon & Red Onion Scone Round

I made these gluten, dairy and egg free scones to use up the streaky bacon that I had wrapped the turkey in to cook on Christmas day and the leftover red onion from my brussel sprout dish.  Sometimes you end up with great new recipes just using up leftovers from the fridge.

Rather than go with the traditional scone shape I made this into a scone round and served it with soup as an alternative to bread.  You can swap the bacon and red onion for any savoury fillings you like, some dairy free cheddar style cheese would be good but I didn’t have any to add in.

I was super excited to get an artificial light box for my food photography from my sister and brother-in-law for Christmas – thanks guys.  I absolutely loath how using flash or normal artificial light makes my food look orange.  That means I’m restricted to photographing my recipes at the weekend  during the winter as I’m at work when it is light.  This recipe is my first experiment with it, I’m really pleased with the result.

Enjoy!

Gluten and Dairy Free Apple, Kiwi and Spinach Smoothie

Morning everyone

Hope you all had an amazing Christmas – we had a traditional family Christmas at my house.  All the cooking and present opening went smoothly despite me not really being able to use my right hand due to the operation I had last week.  I’m now counting the days to next Friday when I get all the stitches out.

The last month has been proper chaotic for me – busy organising Christmas, lots of stuff on the go at work, an operation on my knee and hand (EDS problems always come in multiples for me!) and of course the Christmas recipes for this website.  Any attempt at healthy eating went out the window with all the Christmas socialising and not having enough hours in the day.

Now all the chaos is over and I’ve posted what seems like a million sweet recipes I’m going to try and share a some more savoury recipes and maybe a few healthier options!

So, if like me, you maybe over indulged a little yesterday then try my energy boosting recipe for apple, kiwi and spinach smoothie.

Enjoy!

Vintage Recipe Post – Gluten & Dairy Free Christmas Fudge

Hello everyone

I can’t believe it is so close to Christmas already!  I’ve only got this vintage recipe for Christmas fudge I shared last year and a new recipe for Linzer biscuits and that’s my Christmas recipes over for another year.

This fudge recipe is super rich and creamy but ridiculously simple to make, it is also packed full of warming Christmas flavours.

Enjoy!

Gluten and Dairy Free Snowflake Cupcakes

Morning everyone

I tend to make, and eat, a lot of rich foods at Christmas time, all that fruit cake and mince meat.  For a change I made these plain sponge cupcakes and decorated them with some pale green icing and a sprinkle of snowflakes to make them festive.

I’m literally 10 minutes away from having my hand surgery so better sign-off, have a good day everyone!

Morning Everyone

Hope you are all getting into the Christmas spirit – not long now!

I usually make these cookies every year but realised that I had never shared the recipe on my website.  They are really pretty and you can have free reign on how you decorate them. Las year I did a mixture of small stars on each cookie, all a different colour.  This year due to time constraints I’ve went for the simple option of one large red star!

I still have a few gluten and dairy free Christmas recipes left to share so look out for them coming next week including my snowflake cupcakes.

Enjoy!

Gluten and Dairy Free Christmas Chelsea Buns

Hello Everyone

What a week it has been – total chaos.  First my laptop went bang, then I couldn’t get into the admin section of my website (thanks to Andrew for fixing), then found out I’m in hospital again next week having surgery on my hand.  Of course it is my right hand and I have everyone round to mine for Christmas dinner – I will definitely be relying on my Christmas helpers this year in the kitchen.  So this week has been a mixture of mad panic trying to finish up at work and get ready for Christmas before I’m out of action next week.  It has also been great fun though with a number of Christmas parties and catching up with friends along the way.

So in the midst of all my drama here is a lovely Christmas recipe for gluten and dairy free Chelsea buns filled with delicious mincemeat for that festive twist.

Enjoy!
